Everything you've wanted to know about the Tunable White ELED2 Controller
Can you provide daylighting control and CCT control from the TAP-41 sensor?
We do not recommend combining daylighting and CCT control in the same space. As the exterior light increases, the daylighting control will dim the lights down, which will have the affect of reducing control over the CCT value.
What happens when the controller loses power?
The dimming and CCT outputs will go open-circuit, forcing the fixture to full bright and white.
What happens to the CCT output at night?
If you have a sensor paired for CCT control, the CCT output will go to the partial-ON CCT value (which is 50% by default) when the outdoor CCT sensor reports invalid readings.
If nothing is linked to channel 1 (no relay control), will the CCT output still operate if a CCT sensor is linked to channel 3?
Yes, you don’t need anything linked to channel 1 to have CCT output control; however, not having control of the relay will render the lights uncontrollable if the controller is power cycled, as you cill not be able to send an ON command. Linking some sort of control to the relay is strongly recommended.
If the relay is open, will the CCT output still operate?
No. With devices like occupancy/vacancy sensors or switches linked to the controller's channel 1, they will have control over the relay, and when the relay is open, both the dimming and CCT channels will go to an off state.
Will the CCT output timed manual override also override scenes or presets?
Yes, switches can override the CCT output, whether driven by CCT sensor, timeclock schedule, or presets (scenes).
If a user manually changes the CCT output with a switch, will the controller recall this value after the lights have been shut off then back on again (similar to the dimming output)?
Yes, the controller will save last manual state unless a CCT sensor is linked to channel 2 or 3.
How do you implement a long transition period for CCT changes?
Central command messages used by gateways have a timer with a maximum value of 255 seconds. If the command is driven by the Echoflex wireless timeclock, you can use Garibaldi Pro to set a longer time for a preset activation.
Do we recommend agents carry spectrometers to verify field settings and adjustments?
This is entirely up to the agent and requirements of the application or specification. If the CCT value is critical, there is likely someone checking to ensure compliance, so a spectrometer may be required. Errors in delivering a specific set point of any analog value are cumulative. Sensor error is added with controller error, with window refraction error, with the reflective qualities of the room finishings, and so on for anything that may cause issues.
When being used for CCT control, where should the TAP-41 be mounted?
The sensor should be mounted away from the windows or skylights within direct view of the light emitted from the tunable white fixtures and not reflected other surfaces.
Heartbeat or refresh rates are dynamic. How does this work?
The sensor will sample CCT (Kelvin) and light intensity (lux) together every 16 seconds (dependent upon ambient light levels). The sensor will broadcast the current sample reading every tenth sample.
Current sample readings are compared against an averaged value of the previous four samples. If the differential is equal to or above 12.5%, a message is sent immediately with the current reading. This insures a step-change in the current reading will initiate an immediate message.
What mounting methods does the FLS sensor support?
The FLS sensor has two double sided tape pads adhered to the mounting base. There are no provisions for mounting with screws.
