Cobalt Family Blue Screens when Installing on Windows 10

Symptoms

When installing the software on a computer running Windows 10 version 2004 (Win 10 Pro May 2020 Update), the installer causes a Blue Screen crash of the PC during installation and will not complete. This Blue Screen often shows a Page Fault: Non-Paged Area.

Explanation of Issue

The driver for the ETCnomad dongle that we install which comes from Thales/Gemalto is the culprit driver during the installation. Previous versions (including those used in Eos version 2.9.1 and earlier, Cobalt 8.2.1 and earlier, and Hog 4 PC 3.15.1 and earlier) of their driver installation package causes a BSOD on Windows 10 on the latest 2004 version.

However, we can't change past releases so they will have issues installing and will reliably cause a BSOD on Windows 10 v2004. There is a workaround where installing a more recent version of the dongle driver before attempting to install the software will not result in a BSOD.

Solution

  1. Download the latest version of the driver: HASP User Setup v8.11 (Windows 10 V2004)
  2. Install the downloaded version of the driver before installing the software
  3. Install the software
