Why does my Net 3 RVI not prompt for a shutdown when I hit the facepanel power button?

Question

Some Eos family consoles prompt for a shutdown when the facepanel power button is hit, but others do not. Why is this, and what is the difference?

Answer

Consoles with Windows XP hardware had the ability to prompt for a shutdown with the facepanel power button, and to proceed with the shutdown with a second hit of the button. Microsoft added shutdown restrictions in Windows 7 that removed this ability.

Newer consoles with Windows 7 hardware (IonXE, Element 2, Gio@5, Gio Enhanced, and EosTi Enhanced) have intelligent power hardware built in to bypass this restriction. Older Windows 7 consoles unfortunately do not have the ability to do this, and must be shutdown through the File Browser or Shell options.
