Several ETC applications require the use of RS-232 serial to communicate with some of our products. Since most modern laptops built in the last several years do not come with native serial ports, often a USB to RS-232 serial adapter will fit the bill. In the early 2000s ETC Technical Services did some informal testing of two adapters which exhibited poor quality of use, however, in more recent years they've proven to be much more reliable and a fine tool for your kit.
- Common programs used by ETC which require RS-232:
- Light Manager
- USAP Test Utility
- Composer Lite
- WYSIWYG Serial Pipe Printing
