How to open D40 & D60

This article describes how to open a D40 or D60 fixture for servicing.
Outdoor fixtures with the suffix X, XT or XTi are not covered by this article. Please consult ETC technical service for advice
Capacitors in the PSU remain charged for some time after the power is removed
Accessing the PSU, control card and UI
1. Using a 4mm Hex/Allen key, remove the 10 screws and washers around the middle of the fixture
2. Gently tip the rear housing towards the top of the fixture (gel clip), paying attention to the 2 harnesses inside
3. Disconnect the two harnesses from the control card
4. If removing the control card or PSU, disconnect the power harness between the two first. The connector on the control card is fragile (circled in red below)
5. Remove the 4 screws circled in green, and remove the 2 metal plates
6. The control card will lift out, though the thermal pad may cause it to stick to the housing
7. The PSU will also lift out far enough for you to disconnect the incoming power connector
8. To access the UI in the back, remove both PSU and control card
Accessing the LED array
1. Using a 4mm Hex/Allen key, remove the 8 screws and washers around the front of the fixture
2. Turn the fixture face-up, and remove the metal ring
3. Remove the lens assembly by unscrewing the visible screws. There have been two revisions of the optic assembly
One-piece optic: the visible screws are long and screw straight through the array into the body
Multi-piece optic: the visible screws are short and screw into stand-offs, which you will need to remove with a 6mm socket to release the array. Warning: do not disassemble the optic assembly (screws on the underside) or you will release all 40/60 lenses
4. Gently disconnect the 2 harnesses from the LED array. The array will now lift out, though it is attached to a thermal pad which may be sticky. Use a thin implement to lever it out, without damaging the harnesses.
Reassembly
Follow the steps in reverse to reassemble. Pay attention to the correct orientation of the DC harness into the control card - it is possible to plug it in backwards, which will stop the fixture from booting
