ColorSource Spot Complete Repair Guide
Tools required
- 4mm hex (Allen) driver or Torx 20 driver or PZ2 driver (for top casing screws, depending on revision)
- 3mm hex (Allen) driver with long shaft
- PH2 screwdriver
- PZ2 screwdriver
- PH1 screwdriver
Steps to repair
The steps below detail how to strip down a ColorSource Spot (regular or deep blue) to the casing. It is recommended to read through the whole document before starting, so as not to unnecessarily dismantle a part that can stay intact.
For any questions or concerns, please contact your local ETC tech service department.
Disconnect mains power before servicing, and wait at least 1 hour before starting work so that capacitors can discharge. Only proceed if you feel comfortable doing so

Opening the casing

1.Lay the fixture flat on an antistatic mat, top side up, yoke at the back (the yoke can stay on for most repairs) |

2.Remove the 4 screws holding the top casing to the bottom casing, and lift off the top casing ℹ️Screw head has varied over time |

3. Remove the 2 screws holding the safety bond loops, and the 4 screws holding in the electronics and beam tube assembly ℹ️The safety bond loop without the earth bond can be loosened and swung to the side ℹ️The screws at the front of the beam tube have small metal clamps under them |

| 4. Gently lift the beam tube and electronics assembly vertically out of the bottom casing. While doing so, disconnect the DC power header from the PSU | ![]() |
Replacing the PSU

5. Remove the old PSU from the bottom casing by removing the 4 screws Disconnect the earth bond and mains power input 🛠️Reinstall new PSU in the same orientation |

6. To replace the AC power input PCB, remove the 4 screws on the outside of the casing, and lift the assembly out inwards 🛠️Check orientation when re-installing |

Removing the control card
Removing the control card is necessary to access the array and fan, or to replace parts on the control card (XLR connectors, switches)
| 7. Remove the 6 screws holding the control card to the frame | ![]() |

8. Gently lift the control card away from the frame, and disconnect the array harness as you do so 🛠️The array harness must be installed the right way round - mark one end as being the control card end if unsure |

9. To disconnect the fan wiring from the control card, gently press on the tabs, one by one, to release the individual wires ⚠️These tabs are fragile. If re-using the control card, use only enough force to release the wire |

| 10. Remove the 4 XLR screws to release the control card from the fan grille | ![]() |

11. If replacing the control card, release the DC power wires using the same method as in step 9 🛠️ The control card and array kit comes with new thermal pads |

Accessing the array and fan

12. Remove the 4 black screws holding the beam tube to the array/heatsink assembly (3 pictured) Lift the beam tube off and set aside |

13. Lift the glass optic and optic holder off and set aside 🛠️Note orientation - glass sits on top of the plastic holder, with the smooth side up. Rotation doesn't matter so long as the guide pegs fit in the holes |

14. Remove all 13 screws holding the array to the heatsink 🛠️Note orientation of array PCB when re-installing |

15 . To replace the fan, continue dismantling the heat sink, and unscrew these 4 screws (2 pictured) 🛠️Note fan direction (label towards heatsink) and wire exit side (control card side) |

General reassembly notes

Follow these steps in reverse to reassemble, paying attention to individual reassembly notes Respect the polarity of the DC and fan wires on the control card. If not explicitly marked, the red (+) connection should have a small triangle next to it When re-seating the beam tube and electronics assembly in the bottom casing, ensure you have a snug fit. The fan grille should sit firmly at the back, and the screw holes by the heatsink should line up nicely with the tabs on the heatsink assembly It can be helpful to use tweezers or needle-nose pliers to place the front screw clamps (note orientation) before inserting the screws |
