ColorSource Spot V Complete Repair Guide
Tools required
- Torx 20 driver
- 3mm hex (Allen) driver with long shaft
- PH2 screwdriver
- PZ2 screwdriver
- PH1 screwdriver
Steps to repair
The steps below detail how to strip down a ColorSource Spot V to the casing. It is recommended to read through the whole document before starting, so as not to unnecessarily dismantle a part that can stay intact.
For any questions or concerns, please contact your local ETC tech service department.
Disconnect mains power before servicing, and wait at least 1 hour before starting work so that capacitors can discharge. Only proceed if you feel comfortable doing so

Opening the casing

1.Lay the fixture flat on an antistatic mat, top side up, yoke at the back (the yoke can stay on for most repairs) |

2.Remove the 4 screws holding the top casing to the bottom casing, and lift off the top casing |

|
3. Remove the 2 screws holding the safety bond loops, and the 4 screws holding in the electronics and beam tube assembly ℹ️The safety bond loop without the earth bond can be loosened and swung to the side ℹ️The screws at the front of the beam tube have small metal clamps under them |

| 4. Gently lift the beam tube and electronics assembly vertically out of the bottom casing. While doing so, disconnect the DC power header from the PSU |  |
Replacing the PSU
|
5. Remove the old PSU from the bottom casing by removing the 4 screws Disconnect the earth bond and mains power input ️Reinstall new PSU in the same orientation |

6. To replace the AC power input PCB, remove the 4 screws on the outside of the casing, and lift the assembly out inwards ️Check orientation when re-installing |

Removing the control card
Removing the control card is necessary to access the array and fan, or to replace parts on the control card (XLR connectors, switches)
|
7. Disconnect the array ribbon cable - very gently move the retaining bar in the direction of the arrows. The bar remains captive in the connector 🛠Gently push the ribbon cable into the connector, paying attention to the orientation as shown, and then gently push the retaining bar into place |

8. Disconnect the Multiverse antenna connector by lifting gently upwards from the wire nearest the connector |

| 9. Remove the screws holding the control card to the frame | |
| 10. On the underside of the control card, remove the fan wires by pressing into each hole with the Wago 2059 tool or paperclip |
|
|
11. If replacing the control card, disconnect the NFC ribbon cable by gently moving the retaining bar |
 |
|
12. If replacing the control card, disconnect the DC power powers by pressing gently on the tabs ⚠️ These tabs are fragile. If re-using the control card, use only enough force to allow the wire to be removed |

| 13. Remove the 4 screws holding the XLRs to the fan grille |  |
Replacing the NFC PCB or antenna mount
|
14. Remove the one screw holding the NFC mount to the fan grille 🛠️ Note where the mount is positioned on the grille |
 |
|
15. Gently squeeze the clips in the middle, allowing the mount to be released, and the long clips to be pulled out. Remove the mount gently to avoid damaging the NFC ribbon cable or antenna cable |

|
16. Replace the NFC PCB and/or antenna mount as needed 🛠️ Pay attention to the orientation of the NFC ribbon cable - blue side up |

Accessing the LED array and fan
Steps 14-16 are not needed for this

17. Remove the ribbon cable from the array - very gently move the retaining bar in the direction of the arrows. The bar remains captive in the connector 🛠Gently push the ribbon cable into the connector, paying attention to the orientation as shown, and then gently push the retaining bar into place

| 18. Remove the 4 screws holding the beam tube to the heatsink (2 shown) |  |
| 19. Lift the beam tube off the heat sink and set aside |  |
| 20. Lift the optic and optic holder off the array |  |
| 21. Remove the screws from the array |  |
| 22. To access the fan, remove the 6 screws holding the heatsink to the frame, then gently slide the heatsink out |

| 23. To replace the fan, remove the 4 screws |  |
Reassembly notes
|
When re-seating the beam tube assembly into the bottom casing (step 4), ensure that - The tabs on the fan grille sit flush with the notch in the metalwork on both sides - The surfaces on the heatsink and the metalwork screw hole that receive the screw head are flush and level If not, the beam tube assembly isn't well seated in the casing, give it a wiggle or try again |

| It can be helpful to use tweezers or needle-nose pliers to place the front screw clamps (note orientation) before inserting the screws |
