Tools required
- 4mm Hex (Allen) driver with long shaft
- 3mm Hex (Allen) driver with long shaft
- PH2 screwdriver
- PH1 screwdriver
Steps to repair
The steps below detail how to strip down a ColorSouce Fresnel V or V Max to the casing. It is recommended to read through the whole document before starting, so as not to unnecessarily dismantle a part that can stay intact.
For any questions or concerns, please contact your local ETC tech service department.
Disconnect mains power before servicing, and wait at least 1 hour before starting work so that capacitors can discharge. Only proceed if you feel comfortable doing so

Opening the casing

1.Stand the fixture on its front end on an antistatic mat, taking care to protect the glass front of the beam tube |

| 2.Lift the main body vertically out of the front housing, and place display-side down on the mat | ![]() |
Replacing the control card

3. Disconnect all wiring from the control card, including those on the rear
Then remove the 8 screws to release the control card ⚠️ 🛠️ Ensure correct polarity of the DC input connector when reassembling! |

| 4. Replacement control cards ship with new thermal pads. Install these, ensuring all of the tray metalwork is covered | [IMAGE GOES HERE OF NICE PADS] |
Replacing the PSU
Note: steps 3-4 are not required for this

5. Remove the plate over the PSU by removing the 3 screws ℹ️CE fixtures have a line filter installed on this plate, which can remain attached |

6. Unscrew the 3 standoffs and 1 screw to release the PSU Disconnect incoming AC, outgoing DC and earth bond ℹ️ The PSU looks slightly different in the various types of Series 1 and Series 2 - in some cases, the DC output will be a 6-pin header rather than screw posts 🛠️ ️Ensure the black plastic insulator is replaced correctly when reassembling |

Replacing the array
Note: steps 3-6 are not required for this, but see notes below

7. To access the array, the beam tube needs to be removed from the array/heatsink assembly. It is possible to do this while leaving the PSU and control card attached to the beam tube, but you can also remove them by following the steps above if you find that easier Remove the 4 black screws at the base of the beam tube. Don't lose the star washers! Lift the beam tube off |

8. Remove the screw from the centre of the optic assembly Lift the optic assembly off the PCB |

|
9. Remove the 10 screws holding the array to the heatsink 🛠️ ️Ensure the new array is correctly oriented based on the small/large connectors |

Accessing the fan, display and UI connections
Note: steps 3-9 are not required for this

10. If starting from this step, disconnect the grey ribbon cable and 2-wire fan connector from the control card Remove the 4 large black screws from the heatsink This can be done with the beam tube still in place |

11. Lift the heatsink and array assembly upwards If the beam tube is still in place, lift the entire beam tube and heatsink assembly as one |

12. Remove the 4 screws from the fan baffle ℹ️ Carefully manage the ribbon cable guide so as not to damage it (green arrow) ℹ️ Pay attention to the rubber trim pieces (2 small, 1 large - purple arrow) |

13. Remove the 4 screws that hold the fan mount to the metalwork. 2 either side of the ribbon cable, and 2 on the opposite side of the fan Lift the fan and mount out ℹ️ The fan mount also has 2 rubber trim pieces (large) |

Replacing the fan
Note: perform steps 1-2 and 10 onwards first

14. Detach the fan from the fan mount. You may find either screws or rubber barbs If ordering a new fan, it is easier to use screws (see this section of exploded diagrams) |

Accessing and replacing the display and the UI PCB
| 15. Remove the 3 screws from the intake cone, and remove it | ![]() |

16. To replace the display, remove the 3 screws on the display mount Disconnect the display power connector and the display data ribbon cable |

17. Remove the display from the metal mount by pushing the plastic tabs 🛠️ Gently push the new display onto the mount in the same way. The new display may have a plastic film on it, remove this before installation |

Replacing the UI sticker
Note: follow steps 1-2 and 10-15 first
|
18. The user interface buttons are integrated into a sticker assembly on the rear of the fixture that also bears the model name. If this is damaged, the entire sticker must be replaced. A ribbon cable runs into the back of the fixture and connects to the UI interconnect PCB Disconnect the UI ribbon cable from the interconnect board |

19. Using a strong plastic spudger, lift up the existing UI sticker and peel it off the rear of the fixture 🛠Feed the ribbon cable of the new sticker through the hole, and carefully line up the sticker before attaching |
