Failed Firmware Update on PCP Mk2 Processors

Symptoms

PCP Mk2 firmware update process appears to hang, complete without updating, or fails.

Details of Issue

The PCP Mk2 firmware update process involves many steps that can result in one of the following states:

1. The firmware update screen does not move on from one status to another after 5 or more minutes.

2. The firmware update screen appears to complete, but reports the old version and reboots shortly thereafter.

3. The firmware update screen appears to complete, but then fails.

4. The firmware update process fails and only the ETC logo appears briefly on reboot and the recovery menu also fails to load firmware.

Fix/Solution

  1. If you encounter this failure - simply unplug the USB and reboot the PCP Mk2.  After boot, insert the USB drive and attempt the firmware update again.

  2. If you encounter this, the upgrade has not failed, but instead you have encountered a the screen timing out while performing the update and it has returned to the home screen.  You can access the menu and perform all of the menu actions during this time.  Approximately 30 seconds later the PCP Mk2 will reboot and apply the firmware update.  This is resolved in v4.1.0 for future updates, but is caused by the menu timeout timer failing to keep the display alive during the firmware update dialog.

  3. If you encounter a failed update and the PCP Mk2 UI indicate the update failed, reboot the PCP Mk2 and attempt the update again.
    1. This can be caused by many things, including but not limited to: corrupted firmware file, bad copy from USB, hiccup in the transfer, power blip...
