Backwards Compatibility of Show Files

Issue

Generally, it is desired to be working with the latest version of software available. Sometimes it is necessary to work with a version of software that is not the latest even though parts or all of the show may have been programmed on a later version.

Show files are guaranteed to be forwards compatible, but not backwards compatible so some care must be taken when moving backwards.

Cobalt v8.2.x to v8.1.x or previous:

Show files created or saved in version 8.2.x will not include presets when opened using Cobalt v8.1.x or earlier software. To work around this, export the version 8.2.x show file as an ASCII show file and open the ASCII version of the show file in the earlier version of software. Magic Sheets and Screens are not included in the ASCII export and would need to be imported or recreated.

Cobalt v8.x to v7.3.1 or previous:

Show files created or saved in version 8.x will not will open using Cobalt v7.3.1 or earlier software. To work around this, export the version 8.x show file as an ASCII show file and open the ASCII version of the show file in the earlier version of software. Magic Sheets and Screens are not included in the ASCII export and would need to be recreated.

Cobalt to Congo v6.4.1 or previous:

Show files created or saved in version 8.x will not will open using any version of Congo software. To work around this, export the version 8.x show file as an ASCII show file and open the ASCII version of the show file in the earlier version of software. Magic Sheets and Screens are not included in the ASCII export and would need to be recreated.

Cobalt v7.x show files will include features that are not present in Congo software. These features will not be available in the previous software versions.
