How to replace LVDS cards in a Gio, Gio @5, Eos Ti, or Cobalt

Symptoms/Issue

Internal video issues including loss of video or intermittent issues can sometime be due to a failing or incorrectly set LVDS card/s.  If the settings are correct and all the cables and connectors look ok, it may help to replace the LVDS card. 

Fix/Solution

1. Lift the screen panel and remove the lower chassis cover underneath.
2. If there's still not enough room to remove the lower screws in the panels behind the screens, disconnect the display panel lift piston/s which should be accessible now that you've removed the lower chassis cover.  Be sure to prop up the screen so that it doesn't fall on you.
3. Remove the cover/s behind the affected screen/s until you see a 2x3" blue board attached to the back of the screen (shown below).  Eos Ti has an extra panel inside attached to the back of each screen which covers the boards.
   
   
   

   Check the switch settings here before you replace the board.  If one of the switches on S1 is set to on, turn it to off and continue to monitor the issue.  It may go away now.  This is a programming switch that was left on in production and can cause intermittent loss of video, although it should only rarely do this.

4. Remove the 4 screws at the corners of the LVDS board shown below.  It may be best to remove the board (4 screws at the corners) before disconnecting the
   cables and replacing the board.

   Be sure not to pull on the cable connected to the screen itself as it is very delicate.

   
5. Check the settings for each board before reinstalling.
