How to "Disable" Express Trackpad

This post contains instructions for disabling the track pad on the Express Console. It is recommended that this procedure be completed by a trained repair service technician only. Track pads may fail due to normal wear and tear, spilled liquids, heavy objects dropped on the desk or the pad getting ripped by a sharp object. If the track pad is registering "phantom" touches it may override any manual levels you are trying to set. 

While there is not a feature in the software that allows you to disable the trackpad, this post will walk you through how to open the console and disconnect the trackpad.

Steps to Solution

1. Disconnect power and all other connections from the console before performing any service work.
2. Place the console on a clean, stable surface with the “brick” facing you.

3. Remove the circled (6) black screws.

4. Remove the CPU Assembly

5. Unscrew the (2) flathead screws.

6. Remove the front metal piece of the "brick."
7. Using your #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the two circled screws.

8. Flip the face panel over and remove the (10) circled screws then remove the back panel.

9. Disconnect the circled connection.

 

10. After you have disconnected the trackpad ribbon cable, re-assemble your console by following steps 8-3 in reverse.
