How Do I Extend My Networked System Wiring?
Question
I need a run of network or Cat5 cable that is longer than the approved limit of 328 feet. What's the easiest way to extend that range?
Solution
The simplest way to extend your network wiring is to put a network switch in the middle, to link your two runs of network wiring. For example, if you need a 500 foot network run, pull two runs of under 250 feet, and connect them in the middle through a switch.
The switch can be managed, but an unmanaged (simple) switch is likely an easier, cheaper option.
