Net1 and Wireless 802.11b
Question:
Why do wireless 802.11b devices not work in conjunction with the ETC Net(1) product line?
Answer:
ETC's Net (1) protocol works on Layer 2 of the OSI Model and therefore based on the MAC address of a networked device. It does not use the IP address in any way. IEEE 802.11b is based on layer 3 protocols, it relies on valid IP addresses to work correctly. Since the Net (1) protocol uses no IP address, the wireless products cannot communicate with the Net (1) devices.
