Wire Nuts vs locking lever (WAGO) connectors for Control Wiring
Explanation
All LON-based control wiring must use locking lever connectors such as WAGO 221 for connecting multiple wires together.
ETC Unison Paradigm and Unison Legacy products use a LON-based protocol for communication, so they require Wagoed connections.
While ETC Echo uses the same standard control cable (Belden 8471) as the Unison products for communication, it uses ETC's proprietary EchoConnect protocol, which does not strictly require locking lever connectors.
ETC strongly recommends using Wagos or other lever lock connectors for EchoConnect products, as they inherently create a more secure connection. However, wirenuts are acceptable for wiring an EchoConnect system.
