My Desire Fixture Seems To Get Dimmer When In Use For Long Periods

Symptoms/Issue

When using your ColorSource, S4 LED, Desire, or Fos/4 fixture for extended periods, the output seems to get slightly dimmer.

Description/Explanation of Issue

This could be a symptom of power budgeting; when a fixture reaches a high internal temperature it gradually and subtly pulls back on the output to help regulate the fixture temperature and avoid going into an overtemp state which would prevent output altogether.

Fix/Solution

  1. Leave it alone and continue using it as you were. It will regulate its own temperature and return to normal output when internal temperatures return to the safe range.
  2. Stop the output of the fixture and let it cool down for 15-20 minutes.
  3. For any units except Selador Classic, check your LED settings via RDM or via the UI to see if you're running in boost. If you are, try using regulated mode. Boost mode drives the emitters as hard as they can, which will increase the likelihood that you will see some LED droop. Regulated adjust how hard the emitters are pushed to allow for headroom to boost the emitters when they start to droop.
