Dimmer Settings for Use with Source 4WRD
How to configure various ETC dimmer system circuits to work with Source 4WRD fixtures, including Sensor, Unison DRd, Legacy Unison, and Smart systems.
For assistance changing any dimmer settings, please feel free to call Technical Support.
For DMX Mode or Color I and Color II variants:
Set dimmer to a switched state or use a relay when controlling Source 4WRD in DMX mode, or when using Source 4WRD Color I and Color II variants. The Source 4WRD Color does not support line dimming mode.
For Line Dimming from 120vac or 240vac systems:
CEM3 with a D20 or ED15
Parameter | Value D20 | Value ED15 |
---|---|---|
Curve | Mod Square | Mod Square |
Threshold | 1% | 1% |
Min Scale (Percentage) | 9 % | 1% |
Max Scale (Percentage) | 100 % | 100% |
Regulation | Off | Off |
Preheat | Disabled | Disabled |
Inrush Protect | OFF | OFF |
DC Prevent | ON | ON |
Scale Load | 100 | 100 |
Control | Smoothing |
All of these settings are available in the [Setup] menu on the CEM3 itself under [Dimmers].
The SCR Off Time may need to be increased from the default setting. Please contact ETC technical support for assistance in changing the SCR Off Time if necessary.
CEM3 with an ELV10-S or LED10
Parameter | Value ELV10-S | Value LED10 |
---|---|---|
Control | Smoothing | Smoothing |
Firing | Rev phase | Rev phase |
Curve | Linear | Linear |
Threshold | 1% | 1% |
Min Scale (Percentage) | 13% | 13% |
Max Scale (Percentage) | 100% | 100% |
Regulation | No | No |
Preheat | No | No |
Inrush Protect | OFF | OFF |
DC Prevent | Yes | Yes |
CEM+ with D20 or ELV10
All settings for CEM+ can be accessed when logged in as a POWER USER via the user interface. Code is [3][3][3][3].
Parameter | Value D20 | Value E15 |
---|---|---|
Curve | Mod Square | Mod Square |
Threshold | 1% | 1% |
Min Scale | 6V | 12V |
Max Scale | 140V | 280V |
Regulation | Off | Off |
Preheat | Disabled | Disabled |
Inrush Protect | OFF | Off |
DC Prevent | ON | ON |
Scale Load | 100 | 100 |
In CEM+ it is very important that Max Scale be set to 140V for 120v systems or 280v for 240v systems. If this is not set then Regulation will never be truly disabled.
The SCR Off Time may need to be increased from the default setting. Please contact ETC technical support for assistance in changing the SCR Off Time if necessary.

Unison Legacy DR and Sensor Classic with D20
Dimming with Unison Legacy DR and/or Sensor Classic racks is not ideal. Below 6% the unit will misfire (jump from full to off and back), but above should dim smoothly. Unfortunately there is no way in the older software to set a minimum threshold and avoid the poor dimming below 6%.
We do not recommend using Source 4wrd with Unison Legacy DR or Sensor Classic dimming.
We do not recommend using Source 4wrd with a Dimmer Doubler.
Smartbars and Smartpacks
Smartbars and packs do not have many settings that can be changed. The good news is that they run unregulated at all times. This means that S4wrd can function on these dimmers. They may appear steppy at some points of the fade, but they will dim.
REPORTING DIMMER SETTINGS FOR NON-ETC DIMMERS
If you are using S4WRD with another manufacturers dimmers, and have found settings that work for you, please let us know so we can share that information with other users. To report the proper settings, please e-mail the rack and dimmer information and settings to service@etcconnect.com.
