When to Use I-Couplers, Mid Feeds, or Straight Couplers with Datatrack

I-coupler is your best option for:
  • Bringing power and/or data into a track system at the junction of two sections of track laid out in a straight line
  • Use with DataTrack Backbone to bring power and/or data into straight-line track layout where end feeds are not feasible (e.g. due to obstructions in the structure)
    • Midfeeds are actually not compatible with Backbone. That was an naming error that has since been corrected.
  • Connecting two sections of DataTrack in a straight line in systems without Backbone or where it will be difficult to attach a structural support at the joint location
Midfeed is your best option for:
  • Bringing power and/or data into a track system at any point along the track, rather than at a junction point
    • For example, if your AHJ will not accept power and DMX (class 1 and class 2 wire) both terminating into an End Feed, you could use the End Feed for DMX and then place a midfeed at a point along the track where there is no plan to place fixtures in order to land your power (since power is not directional, it can be landed anywhere)
Straight coupler is your best option for:
  • Connecting two sections of DataTrack in a straight line in systems using Backbone or where a structural support can be located at the joint location
    • The data bus connectors on the I-couplers are much better at handling small variances in level or square between pieces of track
