Power Requirements - Vortek NXT Hoists

ETC Hoist Power Requirements

ETC Prodigy & Vortek NXT hoists require 208 volt, 60 Hz, 3-phase (3 wire + ground) and/or 480 volt, 60 Hz, 3-phase (3 wire + ground) power service installed and sized according to NEC 430. The installing contractor must verify the existence of the correct power and that the wiring has been installed to the appropriate electrical phases. ETC hoists are designed for clockwise phase rotation. The correct phase sequence must be verified on each Power & Control Distribution outlet prior to operating any hoists.

Power & Control Distribution Maximum Feed Size

  • Individual PCD Plug-in Stations: 20A max
  • PCD Raceway - Main Feed: 170A max
  • PCD Raceway - Discreet Feed: 30A max

Power & Control Distribution Terminal Size

  • Individual PCD Plug-in Stations: 18 - 3 AWG
  • PCD Raceway - Main Feed: 4 AWG - 300 kcmil
  • PCD Raceway - Discreet Feed: 22 - 8 AWG

Please reference the submittal drawing set for your project for specific hoist power and current draw requirements. Hoist power circuits shall comply with all local, state/provincial, and national codes as required by the authority having jurisdiction.

Main Fed Raceway Torque Spec

For current version of the main fed PCD Raceway the torque specification for the input (lineside) power lugs is 31.1 nm [275 in-lb]. The internal raceway (loadside) wiring has a torque specification of 2.3 nm [20 in.-lb].

The newer style main fed PCD Raceway uses 3 separate power distribution blocks, one for each phase. The chart below can be used for reference.

The field ground lug torque specification is dependant on the field conductor used:

     2 AWG - 4 AWG = 5.7 nm [50 in-lb.]

     6 AWG - 10 AWG = 4.5 nm [40 in-lb.]

     12 AWG - 14 AWG = 1.7 nm [15 in-lb.]

PCD Raceway PDB Torque Spec.PNG

Older versions of the PCD Raceway used a single multi-section power distribution block with black fins between the lugs for each phase. The torque specs for older version of the power distribution block are:

     2/0 - 6 AWG Wire = 13.6 nm [120 in-lb.]

     8 AWG - 14 AWG = 5.7 nm [50 in-lb.]

For markets outside of North America

ETC Prodigy & Vortek NXT hoist require 208 volt, 60 Hz (3 wire + ground), 3-phase and/or 400 volt, 50/60 Hz (3P + Neu + PE), 3-phase and/or 480 volt, 60 Hz (3 wire + ground), 3-phase power service.

  • Individual PCD Plug-in Stations: 16A max
  • PCD Raceway - Main Feed: 170A max
  • PCD Raceway - Discreet Feed: 30A max

Power & Control Distribution Terminal Size

  • Individual PCD Plug-in Stations: 1 mm2 - 16 mm2 [16 - 6AWG]
  • PCD Raceway - Main Feed: 12 mm2 - 150 mm2 [4 AWG - 300 kcmil]
  • PCD Raceway - Discreet Feed: 0.5 mm2 - 10 mm2 [22 - 8 AWG]
