Patch Cable Guide - Prodigy Balance

The control signal for Prodigy Balance linesets is daisy-chained from the Balance Power Supply to each lineset's control enclosure via RJ45 patch cables. The patch cables (24 AWG minimum) are provided by ETC as part of your Prodigy Balance System.

Note: When laying out a Balance system the total combined length of each Balance Control wiring branch cannot exceed 40 feet [12m], including total patch cable length.

The patch cables between Prodigy Balance linesets should not be run free-air. To protect the cables, they can be routed using two methods depending on the installation and lineset spacing.

If the front of the linesets are mounted to a continuous length of strut the patch cables can be run from the control enclosure, through the strut channel, and into the next lineset's control enclosure. Prodigy Balance allows for a secondary piece of strut to be mounted adjacent to the primary strut for easier cable routing.  Snap-in strut covers are available (ETC Part Number SGHW1984) to cover exposed strut between linesets.

If a continuous strut run between linesets is not available, or additional cable protection is required, the patch cables can be run through rigid or flex conduit.

Patch Cable Part Numbers

ETC stocks the following patch cables for use in Prodigy Balance systems.

Cable Routing - Strut

When adjacent Prodigy Balance linesets  are mounted to a continuous run of strut, the strut channel can be used to route the patch cable between Prodigy Balance linesets.

Patch Cable Routing

The patch cable runs from the control enclosure, through the Prodigy Balance Base assembly, into the floor mounted strut, up through th e adjacent Prodigy Balance Base assembly, into the adjacent lineset's control enclosure.

Cable Length Formula

Cable Length = (Control Box to Strut/Floor * 2) + Center-to-Center Distance

Dimensions - Known - Balance Patch Cable Guide.png

Cable Length Calculation Examples

Center-to-Center Lineset Spacing @ 32"

Cable Length = (20" * 2) + 32" = 72"

Center-to-Center Lineset Spacing @ 80"

Cable Length = (20" * 2) + 80" = 120"

Cable Routing - Conduit

When adjacent Prodigy Balance linesets are spaced further apart, a continuous strut run between linesets is not available, and/or additional cable protection is required, the patch cables can be run through rigid or flex conduit.

Patch Cable Routing

The patch cable runs from the control enclosure, into conduit attached to the 0.88" diameter hole (1/2" NPT) in the Prodigy Balance Base assembly to the adjacent lineset's base assembly, exiting the conduit, running into the adjacent lineset's control enclosure.

Cable Length Formula

Cable Length = (Control Box to Strut/Floor * 2) + (Strut to Front of Guide Wall * 2) + Length for Bends in Conduit Routing + Center-to-Center Distance

Cable Length Calculation Examples

Center-to-Center Linset Spacing @ 30"

Cable Length = (20" * 2) + (30.5" * 2) + 10" + 32" = 143"

Center-to-Center Linset Spacing @ 48"

Cable Length = (20" * 2) + (30.5" * 2) + 10" + 48" = 159"
