Clean between the HedgeHog's display and the control panel frame
Introduction
Sometimes debris can build up between the HedgeHog's Control Panel Frame and the Display. A symptom of this can be noticed when the mouse mointer keeps going to a different location on the screen instead of remaining where the user last touched. Sometimes a simple cleaning can solve this. Below are instructions on how to clean between the control panel frame and the display. These instructions are the same for all of the different models for the HedgeHog.
Tools Needed
- 2.5mm Metric Hex Key
- 7mm Metric Nut Driver
- Philips Screwdriver
- Camera
Steps
- Power off the HedgeHog and unplug the IEC Power Cord
- Unplug all cables and remove all external peripherals you might have attached to the HedgeHog
- Using the 2.5mm Hex Tool remove the Control Panel Frame mounting hardware
- 6 socket button’s on top of the Control Panel Frame
- 2 socket button’s on the back of the Control Panel Frame
- Using the Philips Screwdriver remove the 2 Plastic Clips on the back of the Control Panel Frame
- Clip Heavy Duty Cable: 90410172
- Slowly lift the Control Panel Frame so no internal cables get unplugged or damaged
- Lift up from the front or armrest
- Unplug the USB-B Dual Cable that is connected to the Front Panel PCB and the Display from the Motherboard
- Take a picture of the cables orientation when plugged into the Motherboard

- Using the Wire Connector unplug the LVDS Display Cable from the Motherboard
- Do Not unplug the harness by the wires as that could damage the harness by pulling induvial wires out of the connector
- Take a picture of the cables orientation when plugged into the Motherboard

- Using the Philips Screwdriver remove the Nylon Cable Clamp for the Front Panels PCB Power Cable
- Located on the Programmer side
- Nylon Cable Clamp Part Number: 90410023
- Unplug the Front Panel PCB’s Power Cable
- Remove the Control Panel Frame from the Chassis and set the Control Panel Frame Display down on an even dry surface
- Ensure nothing can scratch or damage the Display when laid down on the surface
- Using the 7mm Metric Nut Driver remove the 4 nuts mounting the Display
- Remove the Display from the Control Panel Frame
- Take a picture of the displays orientation when installed on the Control Panel Frame
- Clean the edges of the Display and the Control Panel Frame with a clean towel
- Reassemble the HedgeHog
- Its best to start all 4 of the Display’s mounting nuts before tightening them down
- Its best to start all 8 Control Panel Frame socket button’s before tightening them down
- After reassembling your HedgeHog its best to test the Display and the Front Panel using the HedgeHog’s diagnostics Test Apps
- Power on your HedgeHog
- Sitting at the Hog Start Screen
- Select the Control Panel button
- Select the Diagnostics Tab
- Test Control Surfaces and Test Touchscreen
Note:
- Sometimes simply losing the displays mounting nuts and using canned air to blow out the debris from around the frame and display will work and you do not need to fully disassemble the display from the frame.
