Frame Rate and LED Flicker on Camera

Symptoms/Issue

LED fixtures output flickering on camera

Description/Explanation of Issue

Flicker is something we always recommend testing for in real-world conditions, however, it is possible to calculate an optimal frame rate based on the refresh rate of the lighting source using the formula  T (time of exposure) = 1/2F (frame rate)

Example: With the fixtures set at 16,000hz refresh rate, and assuming a camera shutter angle is set to a standard of 180 degrees (meaning the camera’s sensor is exposed for half of the frame period) - you should be able to shoot at any integer multiples of 16,000, or any exact multiples of the light’s refresh cycle, which is 62.5 microseconds. Some high frame rate options that should work include: 400, 500, 667, 800, 1000, 1250, 1333, 1600, 2000, and 4000 fps.
