How do I Enable Occupancy Control for Echoflex Sensors?

Some definitions first

Vacancy Control = Lights shut-off automatically upon vacancy after a timer expires
Partial-OFF = Lights dim down to a set level automatically upon vacancy after a timer expires

Occupancy Control = Lights turn-on immediately upon occupancy detection
Partial-ON = Lights turn-on to a set level immediately upon occupancy detection. The level may be determined by applicable energy codes

Issue

I have a sensor and switch station linked to my controller and now it only performs vacancy control. How do I enable occupancy control?

Description

Echoflex controllers will automatically configure as vacancy control (Manual ON - Auto OFF) when you have a switch station and sensor linked. It does not matter in which order they were linked.

If only a sensor(s) is linked and no switch stations, the controller will enable occupancy control (Auto ON-Auto OFF) automatically.

Be Aware!! If you are using the OWS-DT Wall Sensor, the switch and sensor are linked to the controller as two separate devices. You will need to link both devices to the controller individually. Instructions for these processes in included in the OWS-DT install guide.

Solution

Enabling occupancy / vacancy control or partial-ON, partial-OFF can be performed without any special tools. However you will need access to both the wall station and sensor and if you're working alone, it may be more convenient to remove one or the other from the mounting location and take with you to the other device.

Enabling Occupancy or Setting the Partial-ON Value

Turn the lights ON
1. in the case of setting partial-ON, use the switch to dim the lights to the desired level for the partial-ON setting
Press the TEACH / LINK button on the sensor. You may have to remove the cover depending on the model
Within five seconds, press the ON side (button or paddle) of the switch station four times. The controller will cycle the output once to confirm the change

NOTE: To disable Occupancy or Partial-ON and revert to vacancy operation, replace step 3 above with:

Within five seconds, press the ON side (button or paddle) of the switch station three times followed by one press of the OFF side. The controller will cycle the output once to confirm the change

Setting the Partial-OFF Value

Dual Tech sensors have their own internal timer. By default controllers have a 900s timer. Dual Tech sensors have a 1200s timer. One could view the 20-15=5 minute window as an extended grace period for audio events. If you are using Auto – ON with a dual tech sensor you should set the controller timeout to 0 and use the sensors timer. This way the grace period lines up properly with the audio (and is title 24 compliant).
