Light Level Test

Every sensor except the OWS uses solar cells for power. The light level test shows how much light exposure the solar cells have so you can ensure you are installing the sensor in a position where it will successfully charge.

Steps:

  1. To enter the main test/config menu, press and hold TEACH/TEST button 6 seconds until:
    1. occ/vac sensors except OWS: green LED illuminates solid
    2. light sensors: green LED blinks (slowly)
  2. Release button so:
    1. occ/vac sensors except OWS: green LED illuminates solid
    2. light sensors: green LED blinks (quickly)
  3. Press and hold again for 6 seconds until the LED de-illuminates
  4. Release button, green LED will blink pattern to indicate light level
    1. patterns will vary by sensor, reference table in sensor's installation guide as needed (full list of links to guides at the end of article)

Range Confirmation Test

One of the most important factors to keep in mind when installing Echoflex equipment is positioning for the strongest signal strength between the wireless radios to ensure proper communication. The range confirmation test shows the signal strength of telegrams passing between devices you are testing to assist with setup.

NOTE: Only one output controller should be linked to the sensor for this test, and no signal repeaters should be enabled.

  1. To enter the main test/config menu, press and hold TEACH/TEST button 6 seconds until:
    1. occ/vac sensors except OWS: green LED illuminates solid
    2. OWS: red/amber/green LEDs blink together
    3. light sensors: green LED blinks (slowly)
  2. Release button so:
    1. occ/vac sensors except OWS: green LED illuminates solid
    2. OWS: red/amber/green LEDs blink together
    3. light sensors: green LED blinks (quickly)
  3. Tap until the following LED blinks
    1. Occ/vac sensors: amber or blue
    2. Photo sensors: blue
  4. Press and hold again for 6 seconds until the LED de-illuminates
  5. Release button and observe LED pattern
    1. all 3 LEDs will blink when sensor transmits a message
    2. An LED will illuminate when sensor receives signal strength feedback from linked output controller
      1. Green: -41 to -70 dBm, best strength
      2. Amber/Blue: -70 to -80 dBm, good strength
      3. Red: -80 to -95 dBm, not ideal, adjust placement
      4. None: no linked controllers detected, adjust placement
    3. This cycle will automatically time out after 50 seconds, or you can press and hold the button 6 seconds to exit manually

Walk Test

The primary function of an occupancy/vacancy sensor is to detect physical motion and, in the case of dual tech sensors, audio. The walk test shows if the person testing is being detected as they walk around the space, so they can adjust the installation position as needed for preferred detection range.

Note-Icon.png

When in walk test mode, the sensor does not send 'occupied' telegrams, it just illuminates an LED to indicate detection.

  1. To enter the main test/config menu, press and hold TEACH/TEST button 6 seconds until:
    1. sensors except OWS: green LED illuminates solid
    2. OWS: red/amber/green LEDs blink together
  2. Release button so:
    1. sensors except OWS: green LED blinks
    2. OWS: red LED blinks
  3. For all sensors except the OWS, tap until the red LED blinks
  4. Press and hold again for 6 seconds until the LED de-illuminates
  5. Release button, red LED blink whenever it detects motion
    1. If unit is dual tech with audio enabled, green LED will also blink when it detects audio

Sensor Settings Mode

There are 3 possible settings for each occupancy/vacancy sensors:

  • PIR sensitivity (all occ/vac sensors)
  • Audio sensitivity (dual tech only)
  • Occupancy sensor timer (dual tech only)

Unlike the other tests, these 3 settings are nested under one main 'sensor setting mode' that you select from the main menu. Once you enter the sensor setting mode menu, you will notice double blinks instead of single blinks to indicate mode selection.

Note-Icon.png For more information on the occupancy sensor timer parameter and how it functions alongside the occupancy timer of Echoflex output controllers, see this article: Failed Vacancy Operation with Echoflex Dual Tech Sensors
  1. To enter the main test/config menu, press and hold TEACH/TEST button 6 seconds until:

Commissioning Test

The commissioning test mode increases the 'heartbeat' of the sensor, or how often it sends its telegrams to allow for quick feedback on light levels. This mode will increase the heartbeat to one telegram every 10 seconds and will last 5 minutes.

Note-Icon.png Make sure the sensor is fully charged or has a battery installed to run this test, as it requires significantly more power consumption than regular usage.
  1. To enter the main test/config menu, press and hold TEACH/TEST button 6 seconds until the green LED blinks slowly
  2. Release button so the green LED blinks faster
  3. Tap until the red LED blinks
  4. Press and hold again for 6 seconds until the LEDs de-illuminate
  5. The test will run for a duration of 5 minutes then automatically exit.

EEP Select mode (in progress)

An Enocean Equipment Profile (EEP) is a categorical identifier for a wireless device, essentially saying what type of device it is. The light sensors can support different EEPs, which this test allows you to choose.

  1. To enter the main test/config menu, press and hold TEACH/TEST button 6 seconds until the green LED blinks
  2. Release button so the green LED blinks faster
  3. Tap until the red and blue LEDs blink together
  4. Press and hold again for 6 seconds until the LEDs de-illuminate
  5. Release button, the following LED(s) will blink to indicate current selected EEP
    1. Red and blue LEDs: TAP sensors
    2. Blue LED: FLS-41
    3. Patterns will vary by sensor, reference table in sensor's installation guide as needed (full list of links to guides at end of article)
  6. Tap to select the desired mode/blink pattern from the guide.
  7. Press and hold 6 seconds to save the change or wait 60 seconds for the menu to time out (changes will not be saved that way)
