Sensor IQ breaker screw won't tighten

Symptoms/Issue

When installing new breakers, the load wire clamp doesn't tighten down onto the wire.

Description/Explanation of Issue

If the wire clamp is loosened too far, the screw no longer has any threads in the clamp, and it cannot engage in the horizontal position when placed in the rack.

Fix/Solution

  1. Remove the breaker from the rack.
  2. With your screwdriver in the screw, hold the breaker vertically such that the screwdriver handle and the breaker handle points down.

  3. While turning the screwdriver, knock both the screwdriver and the breaker held together on a bench or other horizontal surface such that the clamp lug gets knocked down onto the screw until the lug starts to move.
  4. Now you can tighten it normally.
