Reseating the RAM on Congo Sr

Issue

Congo Sr makes noise when booting then fails to boot.

Explanation of Issue

Congo Sr may not boot properly if the RAM is knocked loose/out. Reseating the RAM may resolve this issue.

Opening the Console

  1. Find a friend and a regular house key/other long strong flat object.
  2. Gently lift the front of the console up by the black wrist rest. On the bottom of the console, you will find the latch screws in the two areas indicated in red below.Congo.jpg
  3. Using the key turn the two large black flathead screws shown below so they are perpendicular to your bodyCongo Latch Screws.jpg
  4. Gently set the console back down and lift the face panel using the blue sides of the console.

Accessing the Motherboard

  1. Unhook the ribbon cable from the white hooks.
  2. Unscrew all screws on the silver top as shown below. Don't forget the two under the ribbon cable!

  3. Carefully pull the silver plate towards you and up. Be careful to not rip the fan harness. You may keep the fan plugged in or disconnect it, just ensure that you reconnect it before you close the console.

Reseating the RAM

  1. With the cover off, locate the two sticks of RAM.

If the RAM is damaged, contact ETC Tech Support.
  5. If there is no damage, insert RAM back into connector ensuring it lines up. You will know the RAM is fully seated when the white tabs latch back into their unopened position.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 for both sticks of RAM.

To close the console back up, repeat the steps of Accessing the Motherboard and Opening the Console in reverse.
