Element Will Not Boot After Gadget/IO Board Firmware Update

Issue

After updating the firmware on a High Speed I/O card or Gadget II using a Windows 7 Element or Ion, the console may no longer boot. On startup, the external monitors will display the standard ETC logo and then the primary monitor will display just a white blinking cursor on a black background.

Explanation of Issue

The firmware update on your I/O card failed and the device remained in bootloader mode. Follow the steps below to get the I/O card out of bootloader mode, allowing the console to boot properly.

Solution

  1. Press and hold the power button to power off the console.
  2. Fully unplug power from the back of the console.
  3. Wait 30 seconds then power the console back up.
  4. Try updating firmware on your Gadget/IO Board again. If it fails again, please contact ETC Technical Services.
