Replacing the Main Playback on Apex Family Consoles

Apex Family Console Main Playback Replacement

If instructed and given parts through Tech Services, here are the steps in replacing the Main Playback board on an Apex Family Console. 

Fix/Solution

  • Remove the two fader caps
    • These can be lifted off by pulling straight up and away from the desk

  • Open up the console and Identify the main playback board
  • Remove the 4 screws, the power, and the data cable all highlighted in the red circles

  • Grab the board from the sides and gently pull. The board at this point is being held in by a set of pins in the top and bottom. 
  • Once released spin the board out to the right to reveal the ribbon cable

  • The ribbon cable has a small release lever on the right side of it's connection to the board. Arrow points to the lever. 
  • Flip the lever and gently pull out the cable.
  • With the cable released the board is fully separated from the board.

  • Line the ribbon cable up to the board and gently fit it into place
  • Once inserted close the release lever marked with the red arrow

  • This is how the board should look once the ribbon cable is in place correctly

  • Rotate the board to the right and align the pins on the top to make sure that we have a proper connection.
  • The bottom pins will fall in place more easily after the top is aligned
  • Fully seat the card into the top and bottom pins

  • Reattatch the 4 screws that are circled in red
  • Reattatch the yellow and black power cable and the USB data cable to the board
  • Close lid of console

  • Place the fader caps back onto faders
