Windows 10 Upgrades for Eos Family Consoles

General Information

As of 19 August 2025, ETC is offering Windows 10 upgrades for compatible Eos Family consoles and devices running Windows 7. This upgrade includes new hardware (motherboard, solid-state drive, memory, etc.) along with the new operating system.

The Windows 10 upgrade program will be available until summer 2027.

Why is this happening?

Around the third quarter of 2027, ETC anticipates the release of the first version of Eos Family software which will not install on consoles and devices running the Windows 7 Embedded operating environment (see What Version of Windows is my Console Running?). We continue to see our development tools shift away from Windows 7, and we are having increasing difficulties compiling software and supporting drivers for Windows 7 Embedded systems.

Consoles will, of course, continue to function – but no new features will be added. ETC will continue to release fixture library updates for Windows 7 based consoles, and repairs will be available for as long as possible. As we continue software releases, we will communicate which devices are supported, with ample warning on which software version will deprecate Windows 7 support.

To allow several types of consoles and devices to extend the time they can receive new software updates, ETC is offering a program to upgrade Windows 7 Embedded devices to Windows 10 Embedded. ETC will run the upgrade program for two years after this announcement, into the middle of 2027.

Advantages of Win10 devices over Win7 devices

In summer of 2027, ETC will release a version of Eos Family software which will no longer install on Win7 devices. The upgrade program allows some Eos Family hardware to extend the time the device can accept new software updates with feature additions and bug fixes.
ETC is a member of Microsoft’s Embedded Windows Partner Program. With Windows 10, ETC continues to receive Microsoft security patches, which we deploy through standard Eos software updates as needed.
Windows 10 hardware includes USB-A & USB-C ports and support for USB 3.1.
Windows 10 hardware has more available processing power and memory to better handle complex show files, Magic Sheets, Augment3d models, and 4K displays.
Windows 10 hardware comes with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios installed, which will be unlocked in a future software update.

Device Eligibility

The tables below show which part numbers are eligible to receive a Windows 10 upgrade.

The part number of a device is printed on a white label with a bar code, following "P/N". To find the location of this label on your device, see this article.

Any product not listed below is ineligible for an upgrade. Contact ETC technical services for additional eligibility questions.

Windows 7 Devices | No Upgrade Available

Due to parts obsolescence, these devices cannot be upgraded to Windows 10. There will be no upgrade paths announced for these devices in the future.

All Windows XP devices are also ineligible for upgrade, including Windows XP devices that were previously upgraded to Windows 7.

These devices run Windows 7 and are eligible for an upgrade to Windows 10.

Process

If your device is eligible for a Windows 10 upgrade, contact your ETC dealer for pricing and availability.

For customers in the United States, your console will need to be sent to ETC on a repair order (RMA) arranged by your dealer.
For customers outside the United States, contact your local dealer for more information about the upgrade procedure.

Upgrades require devices to be shipped to an authorized ETC repair center. General maintenance and cleaning will be performed on your device during the upgrade. If any additional issues are found that may require repair, your dealer will contact you to discuss next steps.

All user data (showfiles, system settings, etc.) should be backed up before sending a device in to be upgraded. See this article for instructions. During the upgrade process, devices will be re-imaged and all user data will be wiped. Every attempt will be made to preserve your data when we receive the console and restore it after the upgrade procedure, but it is still recommended to make a backup prior to sending in the device.

All Windows 10 upgrades include a 1-year warranty period on the entire device, starting on the date it is sent back to you from ETC.

No loaner devices will be provided for devices undergoing a Windows 10 upgrade. Please inquire with your ETC dealer about lead times when requesting pricing.
