MicroVision and FX Serial Port

Both the MicroVision and the MicroVision FX have an RS-232 serial port on the back. In both cases, this port is not used by either console.

Point in fact; no one at ETC seems to remember exactly why the port is there in the first place. The most popular guess is that we were planning to support serial printing but that never ended up happening.  Interestingly, the 8/9/89 schematic for the Microvision processor circuit board lists the RS-232 connector as "Effects."  Perhaps it was intended for color changers or moving lights of some sort.
