Load Profiling Setup on QuickTouch/QuickTouch+

Load Profiles and Monitoring

Load monitoring allows the system to verify that the correct load is being lifted. If the load is out of the allowable range, movement is stopped and an error message is displayed on the LCD.

In order to monitor the load, a load profile must be “learned” by the system. This is done by loading the motor with the desired load and then allowing the system to learn that load. The system can only learn one load at any given time.

There are two methods of recording a load profile: Full Profile and Quick Learn.

Quick Learn

In most cases the Quick Learn method can be used to record a new load for a lineset. The quick learn method works for all attached loads that do not change weight during movement. A Quick Learn simply records the static load at one position and the system adjusts any existing profile to account for the change in static load.

To perform a quick learn:

Step 1: Make sure the full static load is supported by the motor and is not resting on the floor or scenery.

Step 2: Insert a key into the “LOAD PROFILE” keyswitch.

Step 3: Turn the keyswitch to [LEARN].

Step 4: Press the select button for the motor you want to record a profile for.

Step 5: Press the [Trim] button. The load is recorded immediately.

Step 6: Turn the keyswitch back to [RUN].

Step 7: Remove the key from the keyswitch or repeat for any other desired motors.

Full Load Profile

Full Profile learning records the load along the entire travel range of the motor. This allows profiling for loads that vary based on position (such as stage electrics that gain or lose the weight of power cables as they travel).

Recording a Full Profile involves running the motor from one limit to the other and back again. Trims are ignored during the process.

To record Full Profiles:

Step 1: Insert a key into the “LOAD PROFILE” keyswitch.

Step 2: Turn the keyswitch to [LEARN].

Step 3: Press the select button for the motor you want to record a profile for.

Step 4: Press the [UP] or [DOWN] button to move the load to the nearest limit (upper or lower). Do not release the button until the limit is reached. The load is not being recorded yet.

Step 5: Once the limit is reached, release the move button.

Step 6: Press the opposite move button to move to the opposite limit. Do not release the button until the new limit is reached. The load is now being recorded.

Step 7: Once the new limit is reached, release the move button.

Step 8: Press the original move button again to move to the original limit. Do not release the button until the original limit is reached. The load is still being recorded.

Step 9: Once the new limit is reached, release the move button. Recording is complete.

Step 10: Turn the keyswitch back to [RUN].

Step 11: Remove the key from the keyswitch or repeat for any other desired motors.

Enabling Load Monitoring

Load monitoring can be enabled or disabled for each motor individually.

To enable profile monitoring of motors:

Step 1: Insert a key into the “LOAD PROFILE” keyswitch.

Step 2: Turn the keyswitch to [ON-OFF]. The LEDs for motors with load monitoring enabled will be green. Those with it disabled will be yellow.

Step 3: Press the select button for any motor to change the state of load monitoring. The LEDs will change color accordingly (green = enabled, yellow = disabled).

Step 4: Turn the keyswitch back to [RUN] when you are finished.

Step 5: Remove the key from the keyswitch.

Effects of Load Monitoring

When load monitoring is enabled, if the monitored load is too high (for example, if the batten is caught on something) upward movement of the motor will be disabled. Downward motion is still permitted, allowing you to relieve the added load.

If the load is too low (for example, if the batten comes to rest on the scenery) downward movement of the motor will be disabled. Upward movement is still permitted, allowing you to lift the batten off of its obstruction.

Regardless of whether load profiling is enabled or not, the system always monitors the maximum load limit of the motor at all times. If the maximum load limit is exceeded, upward movement will be stopped. You may then move the motor in the down direction to remove excess weight.
