HedgeHog 4 Playback PCBs, there have been two versions used, more here.

Symptoms/Issue

The Playback PCB has recently changed in HedgeHog consoles. This started with
HedgeHog 4 serial number 720111001, and HedgeHog 4X serial number 720140989.
Console serial numbers starting with 55 have the original version Playback PCB.

Description/Explanation of Issue

If needing to replace the Playback PCB for any reason, it is best to replace with the same version as currently installed. Replacing with a different version Playback PCB will require the Program PCB be sent to High End to be reprogrammed. The Program PCB has not changed but needs to be programmed for the specific Playback PCB installed.

Fix/Solution

  1. Determine which version board is being replaced, and replace with the same version.

Below is the original version PCB, service part number 80040072EF.
The original version has the larger processor at U17, a Silabs C8051F700.

Below is the new version PCB, service part number 80040071EF.
The newer version has the smaller processor at U17, a Silabs C8051F704.

  1. Also printer on each board is PCB: 99030254EF REV #

    The original version PCB will have REV: 00 or REV: 01, service part number 80040072EF.
    The new version PCB will have REV: 02, service part number 80040068EF.

Determining in the Hog software Control Panel.

Looking in the System Info tab of the Control Panel, next to Hog4 Hedgehog will be a number. The second number in the parenthesis will indicate which board is installed.

In the photo below, the second number in the parenthesis 0, (1,0,1,2.1), which indicates it is the original version of the board, service part number 80040072EF.

In the photo below, the second number in the parenthesis is 4, (1,4,1,2.1), which indicates it is the newer version of the board, service part number 80040068EF.

In the Diagnostics tab of the Control Panel, select the Test Control Surfaces button.
The Hardware will show 0 for the original PCB, service part number 80040072EF.
The Hardware will show 4 for the newer PCB, service part number 80040068EF.
