How to Configure sACN Output on the Hog 4 Console

Overview

Using the FixtureNet Port (located on the back of the Hog 4 console or DMX Processor 8000), the steps below may be used to configure sACN (E1.31) output on your console or Hog 4 PC.

Identifying the FixtureNet Port

The FixtureNet port is the Ethernet port Hog 4 OS uses to send Art-Net and/or sACN (E1.31) data to fixtures, media servers and DMX converters. This port may be labeled "FixtureNet" or "Fixture Link" depending on the age of your DMX Processor 8000.

Hog 4 PC Only

Hog 4 PC allows the user to select a computer's network adapter to act as the FixtureNet port. Follow the steps below to configure this.

  1. [Setup] > (Control Panel)
  2. Go to the FixtureNet tab
  3. Select an available network adaptor from the drop down list at the top of the window
    1. Drop down list grayed out? There is only one network adapter available
    2. Drop down list blank and grayed? There are no network adapters available

4. Click Apply or OK to save changes

Hog 4 PC will only output Art-Net and sACN universes 1 thru 12 and a USB DMX Widget or ETCnomad key must be connected and assigned to the appropriate universe.

It is NOT recommended to combine HogNet and FixtureNet's Art-Net or sACN out within the same network. When using Hog 4 PCHogNet and FixtureNet may be configured to a single network adapter, but using separate network adapters is strongly advised.

Configuring the FixtureNet Port

It is important that the IP address of the FixtureNet port is compatible with your lighting network. If you are interfacing with other ETC devices on the network, please be sure to configure the FixtureNet port to an ETC-style IP scheme (i.e. IP address 10.101.x.x; Netmask 255.255.0.0).

Configuring DMX Processor 8000's FixtureNet from the DMX Processor 8000 front panel:

  1. Network > Fixture > FixtureNetConfig

Configuring DMX Processor 8000's FixtureNet from the console:

  1. [Setup] > (Network)
  2. Select the DMX Processor 8000 (not the internal DMX Processor 8000 net number 1)
  3. Select Settings
  4. Go to the FixtureNet tab

Configuring Hog 4 console or Hog 4 PC's FixtureNet from the console:

  1. [Setup] > (Network)
  2. Select the DMX Processor 8000 assigned to net number 1 (or the internal DMX Processor 8000)
  3. Select Settings
  4. Go to the FixtureNet tab

From these configuration menus you can configure the FixtureNet's IP address in one of two ways:

Obtain an IP address using DHCP: Select this option when the network contains a DHCP server (such as a console or router with the DHCP server enabled). This option will gray out the IP Address, Netmask, and Gateway fields.

Use Custom IP Settings: Select this option when the network does not contain a DHCP server. This option will require a manually entered IP Address, Netmask, and Gateway for this device.

Configuring sACN (E1.31) Output on Hog 4 v3.14.0 and newer

  1. [Setup] > (Network).
  2. Select the appropriate Processor.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Go to the Output tab.

Proc Setting sACN Mapped.png

  1. An sACN output mapping entry will be created in the table with following configurable properties:
    1. Destination: configure the multi-cast address or specify an IP address for Unicast.
    2. Port: configure the sACN universe.
    3. sACN Priority: configure the sACN universe priority.
    4. Channel Priority: enable and configure sACN per channel priorities.
    5. Changes Only: check this box to transmit only changes to sACN data.
  2. Once the mappings are configured, press OK or Apply to confirm the changes.

Configuring sACN (E1.31) Output on Hog 4 v3.13.1 and older

  1. [Setup] > (Network)
  2. Select the appropriate DMX Processor 8000
  3. Select Settings
  4. Go to the E1.31 (sACN) tab

Network Tab sACN.JPG

Multicast: This field is enabled by default. If you are using Unicast, uncheck this box. When enabled, all sACN information is sent to all nodes on the network.

IP Address: With the default disabled, an IP address may be entered to send Unicast data.

Universe: The sACN universe selected here will be mapped to the showfile universe numbered before the Multicast box.

Changes Only: When enabled, only changes to sACN data will be transmitted.

Priority: sACN supports two styles of priority.

Per-Universe Priority: A single priority for all addresses within an sACN universe.

Per-Channel Priority: Allows for different priorities to be assigned to individual addresses within an sACN universe. Check the Per-Channel Priority field and click on the gear icon (Configure) to edit priorities. The default priority is 100, but valid settings range from 0 to 200. When an address has a priority of 0, that address will be ignored.
