How to connect a Hog 4 console to Capture Visualization software using CITP

 

For Console to PC Communication

1. Ensure that all software is correctly installed

Console:

The console should be on Hog 4 3.12.0 or newer to use CITP communication. This software version of the console can be found in the system info tab of the control panel. 

If the console is not on 3.12.0 or newer see How to perform a software full install on Hog 4 consoles to update the console.

PC

The PC should have Capture 2019 or newer to function with CITP

If the PC does not have Capture 2019 or newer, then the software should be updated, otherwise, ArtNet or sACN communication would be needed. 

The PC should also have the visualizer connectivity driver installed as the same version of the console.

The visualizer connectivity driver can be found under "Software downloads" on the High End Systems Website.

Mac computers do not need the visualizer connectivity driver.

2. Connect the console's FixtureNet port to the PCs Ethernet port.  

3. Configure the consoles FixtureNet IP address and Subnet

[Setup] (Control Panel) (FixtureNet) tab

Set the IP address to default. 10.0.0.1 and subnet of 255.0.0.0 

Alternative IP addresses can be used, but it is advised to keep the console at the default IP Address. 

Restart console if IP address was changed

4. Configure the PC's IP address and Subnet

Windows:

Press the Windows key and type in "Network" on the windows search bar and select "Network Status"

Select "change adaptor options"

Right click on your Ethernet adaptor

Select "Properties"

Select "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPV4)"

Press "Properties"

Select "Use the following IP address"

IP: 10.0.0.2

Subnet 255.0.0.0

Alternative ip address can be used, but it is advised to use these simple scheme

It is highly recommended to restart the computer if the IP address was changed. 

Note: This can also be configured by running Hog 4 PC on the computer and setting the FixtureNet IP to 10.0.0.2 the same way it is done on a console. 

MAC:

Choose Apple menu, "System Preferences", then click "Network".

Select the Ethernet network adaptor in the list.

Click the Configure IPv4 pop-up menu, then choose "manually"

Enter the address 

IP: 10.0.0.2

Subnet 255.0.0.0

5. Launch Capture

Run the Capture program on the connected computer.

If using a regular licensed copy of Capture ( .C2P)

Ensure your fixtures are patched appropriately. 

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under CITP, Select your network adaptor it should display 10.0.0.2

If using a presentation file ( .exe or .app)

Launch the presentation file 

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under CITP, Select your network adaptor it should display 10.0.0.2

6. Launch the visualizer stream and start show

From the Hog 4 start screen, press settings, and enable "Run Visualizer Stream"

Launch into your show,

Note fixtures will need to be added and patched in order to connect to capture

7. Map the visualizer

[Setup] (Network)

Select the visualizer process

Press settings

Select the visualizer if it is automatically detected

If the visualizer does not automatically detect the IP address can be entered in manually (10.0.0.2) 

Select the capture manufacturer

Select the CITP Protocol if running Capture 2019 or newer or a presentation file of capture

Select visualizer visualizer stream if running Capture 2018 or older

The console and the visualizer should be connected, If the connection is not working, double check ip addresses on the computer and the console or go to the troubleshooting section. 

For Hog 4 PC to different PC running Capture connection

 

1. Ensure that all software is correctly installed

PC running Hog 4 PC

The PC should be on Hog 4 3.12.0 or newer to use CITP communication. This software version of Hog 4 PC can be found in the system info tab of the control panel. 

If the console is not on 3.12.0 or newer download and install the latest software 

PC or Mac running Capture

The PC should have Capture 2019 or newer to function with CITP

If the PC does not have Capture 2019 or newer, then the software should be updated, otherwise, ArtNet or sACN communication would be needed. 

The PC should also have the visualizer connectivity driver installed as the same version of the console.

The visualizer connectivity driver can be found under "Software downloads" on the High End Systems Website.

Mac computers do not need the visualizer connectivity driver.

2. Connect the computers together using an Ethernet cable. 

 

3. Configure the Hog 4 PC FixtureNet IP address and Subnet

Press the Windows key and type in "Network" on the windows search bar and select "Network Status"

Select "change adaptor options"

Right click on your Ethernet adaptor

Select "Properties"

Select "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPV4)"

Press "Properties"

Select "Use the following IP address"

IP: 10.0.0.1

Subnet 255.0.0.0

Alternative ip address can be used, but it is advised to use these simple schemes

4. Configure the Capture PC or Mac IP address and Subnet

Windows:

Press the Windows key and type in "Network" on the windows search bar and select "Network Status"

Select "change adaptor options"

Right click on your Ethernet adaptor

Select "Properties"

Select "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPV4)"

Press "Properties"

Select "Use the following IP address"

IP: 10.0.0.2

Subnet 255.0.0.0

For Hog 4 PC to same PC running Capture connection

The PC should also have the visualizer connectivity driver installed as the same version of the console.

2. Launch Capture

If using a regular licensed copy of Capture ( .C2P)

Ensure your fixtures are patched appropriately. 

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under CITP, Select your network adaptor it should display an ip address 

If using a presentation file ( .exe or .app)

Launch the presentation file 

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under CITP, Select your network adaptor it should display an ip address 

3. Launch the visualizer stream and start show

From the Hog 4 start screen, press settings, and enable "Run Visualizer Stream"

Launch into your show,

Note fixtures will need to be added and patched in order to connect to Capture

4. Map the Visualizer

[Setup] (Network)

Select the visualizer process

Press settings

Select the visualizer if it is automatically detected

If the visualizer does not automatically detect the IP address can be entered in manually (This can be found in Capture from the previous step)

Select the Capture manufacturer

Select the CITP Protocol if running Capture 2019 or newer or a presentation file of Capture

Select Visualizer stream if running Capture 2018 or older

 

The console and the visualizer should be connected, If the connection is not working, double check ip addresses on the computer and the console or go to the troubleshooting section. 

 

Troubleshooting

  • Disable Firewalls

Windows Defender

Press the Windows Key

Type in "Defender"

Select "Windows Defender Settings"

Select "Firewall & network protection"

Disable firewall on all 3 network types. 

3rd Party software

Run third party software 

Disable either temporarily, or allow all Hog4 processes through the firewall. 

Restart computer

  • Disabling the WiFi Network adaptor can resolve communications issues. 
  • IPCONFIG 

Hold down the windows key and press R 

Type in "CMD" 

Press OK

Type in "IPCONFIG"

Under your network adaptor, IPV4 it should list your computers IP address. 

If under your network adaptor, "Media Disconnected" Then there is not a clean connection between your computer and the console, replace the Ethernet cable and or reseat the connection and run the "IPCONFIG" command again.   

Under IPv4 address, it should list your computers IP address and subnet

  • DMX TEST

It is possible that fixtures are not patched to the correct address or universe. 

[Setup] (DMX) will open the DMX test window. It is advised to "Test" all DMX channels for communication. 

  • Connecting to capture via ArtNet or sACN instead of CITP
