How to connect a Hog 4 console to Capture Visualization software using ArtNet

Note that for ArtNet or sACN control, there needs to be supporting hardware for the corresponding universes. See How many universes can a Hog 4 console control for universe limitations for ArtNet and sACN.

1. Connect the console's FixtureNet port to the PCs Ethernet port.  

2. Capture Setup

Run the Capture program on the connected computer.

If using a regular licensed copy of Capture ( .C2P)

Ensure your fixtures are patched appropriately. 

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under ArtNet, Select your network adaptor it should display an IP address 

If using a presentation file ( .exe or .app)

Launch the presentation file 

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under ArtNet, Select your network adaptor it should display an IP address 

Ensure fixtures have been added and patched in the universe window

3: Console Setup

Launch into your show

Open the Network window with [Setup](Network)

Right click on DMX processor and press settings

Open the Output Tab

Select Add Mapping

Select the starting and ending universe

Check the ArtNet box

Ensure each Hog universe is correctly mapped to the proper ArtNet subnet and universe 

 

The console and the visualizer should be connected, If the connection is not working, double check IP addresses on the computer and the console or go to the troubleshooting section. It is advised to start Capture, then start Hog 4 PC under certain situations. 

 

For Hog 4 PC to different PC running Capture connection 

1. Connect the console's FixtureNet port to the PCs Ethernet port.  

2. Capture Setup

Run the Capture program on the connected computer.

Ensure your fixtures are patched appropriately. 

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under ArtNet, Select your network adaptor it should display an IP address 

If using a presentation file ( .exe or .app)

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under ArtNet, Select your network adaptor it should display an IP address

3: Hog 4 PC Setup

Launch into your show

Open the Network window with [Setup](Network)

Right click on DMX processor and press settings

For Hog 4 PC to same PC running Capture connection

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options.

Open the Universe window

Press "More" at the bottom of the window and select connectivity options. 

Under ArtNet, Select your network adaptor it should display an IP address 

Ensure fixtures have been added and patched in the universe window

3: Hog 4 PC Setup

Launch into your show

Open the Network window with [Setup](Network)

Right click on DMX processor and press settings

Open the Output Tab

Troubleshooting 

  • Disable Firewalls

Windows Defender

Press the Windows Key

Type in "Defender"

Select "Windows Defender Settings"

Select "Firewall & network protection"

Disable firewall on all 3 network types. 

3rd Party software

Run third party software 

Disable either temporarily, or allow all Hog 4 processes through the firewall. 

Restart computer

  • Disabling the WiFi Network adaptor can resolve communications issues. 
  • IPCONFIG 

Hold down the windows key and press R 

Type in "CMD" 

Press OK

Type in "IPCONFIG"

Under your network adaptor, IPV4 it should list your computers IP address. 

If under your network adaptor, "Media Disconnected" Then there is not a clean connection between your computer and the console, replace the Ethernet cable and or reseat the connection and run the "IPCONFIG" command again.   

Under IPv4 address, it should list your computers IP address and subnet if using multiple devices, each device should be in the same network with unique addresses. 

  • DMX TEST

It is possible that fixtures are not patched to the correct address or universe. 

[Setup] (DMX) will open the DMX test window. It is advised to "Test" all DMX channels and universes for proper communication. 

If data is coming through, but not correctly, check the patch matches between Capture and Hog 4.
