Lubrication Kit Instructions

Symptoms

Color Flags or Zoom/Focus rails stick causing excessive noise or mis-stepping during homing or operation.

Description

Overtime fixtures collect dust and atmospherics causing the need for lubrication. This is most common when automated fixtures are used in dusty environments our outdoors. Some fixtures may require this more frequently than others depending on use and external factors. Thankfully it is an easy process to reapply lubricant. Please reach out to HES service if you have questions or concerns about needing to lubricate mechanisms on your fixtures.

*Note: Update fixture software prior to lubricating as motor mis-stepping can be software related rather than mechanical.*

Halcyon fixtures use and oil lubricant that is less viscous than the lubricant used on the Sola Series and Star Series.

Halcyon Series = GPL 107 Oil Lubricant

SolaSeries and Star Series (Lonestar, Hyperstar, Ministar) = GPL 227 Grease Lubricant

Part Number: 2572K1007 Lubrication Kit

Fix

  1. Disconnect power to the fixture and remove head covers to access the component needing lubrication. We recommend removing the color mixing module for better access to the CMY flag rails.
  2. Then clean off the the zoom/focus rail or color flags using a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Ensure the metal rails and glides are free of debris and any contaminants.
  3. Next using the correct lubricant for your fixture, dispense a small amount on to a cotton swab. Gently rub the lubricant along the guide rails on your color flags or sides of the zoom and focus rails. Do Not use too much lubricant as it can drip inside the fixture causing additional issues.
  4. Slide the mechanism back and fourth by hand to work the lubricant into place.
  5. Wipe off any extra lubricant that could drip onto lenses or CMY flags.
  6. Reinstall module if removed.
  7. Apply power and test the fixture functions that were lubricated. You can operate the functions by using the self test feature in the fixture display menu or console.
  8. Repeat the process if need be after extended use.
