Required and Recommended Tools
Description
The following lists all the required tools from all the install guides for all the ETC Rigging products. You do not need all of these tools for every hoist so refer to individual install guides to know what is needed for the specific powerhead you are installing. The section after that is suggested tools that the Rigging FSE find very helpful when performing repairs and service. I have included pictures of some of these items for reference. Unless otherwise noted, all sockets should be 3/8" drive (if you want to use a different drive, get the appropriate extensions/drill adapters to match)
Required Tools
- Tape Measure
- 100' tape measure
- 100' chalk line (many find that a combination line laser or rotary laser is more efficient)
- Large level (or other method of leveling powerheads and battens, the line/rotary laser can be used for this as well)
- Several sturdy sawhorses (number determined by length of batten or FlyPipe you are installing)
- Marking implements (soapstone, carpenters pencil, chalk, sharpie, silver sharpie)
- Cable labels
- Cat5/Cat5e/Cat6- UTP/STP outer jacket stripper
- T-strippers (capable of handling 22-26ga wire)
- 2x 1m Cat5 patch cable
- Diagonal cutting pliers
- E-tape
- Gaff tape
- Deadblow mallet
- E-Stop Bypass (ETC Part# 8050B7002)
- Data checker cup (ETC Part#8000K1125)
- Phase/Rotation checker 208V (ETC Part#8055A1105) (if working with 480V hoists, a properly rated rotation checker should be used)
- Installer USB key
- Windows laptop with Foundation client and QuickTouch Config (and admin privileges so you can adjust network settings as needed)
- USB-A to USB-B cable (at least 1m)
- Cat5 cable tester
- Multi-meter (capable of measuring RMS voltage, continuity, and resistance)
- Felco C12 or C16 wire rope cutters
- Nicopress oval and stop sleeve gauge (3/16 oval, 1/4" oval, 1/4" stop, 1/8" oval, 1/8" stop)
- Nicropress tool (3/16 oval, 1/4" oval, 1/4" stop, 1/8" oval, 1/8" stop)
- 3/8" drive ratcheting socket handle
- 3/8" drive socket adapter for drill and impact
- 3/8" drive 6" socket extension
- 3/8" drive 10" socket extension
- 3/8" drive 18" 'wobble' extension
- Battery impact driver
- Battery drill
- Drill bit set
- Multi-bit screwdriver
- #1 Phillips screwdriver
- #2 Phillips screwdriver
- Flat blade terminal insertion tool (tweaker)
- Snap-ring pliers (1.8mm tip diameter)
- Sharp knife (or utility blade holder)

- Method for lifting whichever powerhead you are installing (if unsure of weight of powerhead, refer to installer training materials or call rigging support line)

- 5 1/2" Pry bar (for opening P1 rear hatches that are stuck and popping P1 Limit switch assy off the sidewall)
- 3/8" drive version of all the hex sizes listed above
- T-handle and L-style allen keys of all sizes listed above
- Both deepwell and regular for all hex sockets listed above
- 6" zipties
- 12" zipties
- Screw removal kit
- USB/Bluetooth portable keyboard (to plug into Foundation, speeds up comissioning/naming)
- Multi-bit precision screwdriver
- 3/16" blade flat blade screwdriver (for terminals on VFD and Contactors)
- #3 x 6" (or 8") magnetic Phillips screwdriver
- Solder sleeves (for 26ga-18ga wire)
- Laser distometer
- Retain the timing retention pins (cotter pins) from your first FlyPipe install
