Light Manager 1.5 DMX Input Modes

REPLACE

Output / Recorded: The Unison level is output and recorded.  
Recorded: The DMX-512 Input level is ignored.
Uses: Replace is used for dimmers controlled only from Unison.

SNAPSHOT

Output / Recorded: Snapshot is generally only used in UPSAC installations.  
Uses: Pile-on  for ER/DR installations.

PASS THROUGH

Output: The DMX-512 Input level is passed-through to the DMX-512 Output.  The Unison level is not used.
Recorded: The DMX-512 Input level is recorded (the Unison level is ignored).
Uses: Pass Through is used for dimmers controlled only from the console or other DMX-512 device.  In some cases, you might want to use this mode for recording console looks into Unison presets without the Unison levels interfering.  In this case Unison levels cannot be viewed until the input mode is changed back to Replace.

PILE-ON

Output / Recorded: The higher of the DMX-512 Input level and the Unison level.
Uses: Pile-on is useful for capturing console looks on Unison presets.  One needs to be careful to recall "Off" after each preset recorded, since recording a preset will bring up the new levels as Unison levels.  If you don't take the Unison levels back down, you won't be able to set levels any lower from a console.  Using Pass Through mode can remove this requirement, but then Unison levels cannot be viewed until the input mode is changed.

MASTER

Output: The DMX-512 Input level multiplied by the Unison level.  Another way of thinking about this is that either level masters the other.
Recorded: Unison levels are the only levels recorded in this mode.  This makes the most sense in either case (DMX-512 mastering Unison or Unison mastering DMX-512).
Uses: The mode is useful for having a Unison level "master" the DMX-512 passing through the Unison system.  For example, a single Unison fader could be used to fade up and down a chase being run on a console.

REPLACE IF ON

Output / Recorded: The Unison level is output and recorded if it is above 0%, otherwise the DMX-512 Input level is used instead.
Uses: This is useful for systems that want to use console DMX-512 unless the Unison systems override it.

PASS THROUGH IF ON

Output / Recorded: DMX-512 Input level is output and recorded if it is above 0%, otherwise the Unison level is used.
Uses: This is useful for systems that want to be able to override the Unison levels by bringing up levels on the console or other DMX-512 device.

PASS THROUGH IF ACTIVE

Output / Recorded: DMX-512 Input level is output and recorded if it is plugged in and working, otherwise the Unison level is used.
Uses: The is useful for systems that want to be able to override the Unison levels anytime the console or another device is turned on and plugged in.  If the DMX-512 Input is not active, the Unison levels are used instead.
