Element 2 Main Playback Not Responding
Symptoms
On my Windows 10 Element 2, the [Stop|Back] and [Go] keys occasionally fail to register a press.
Some of the submaster/channel faders on the right side of the console, or the bump buttons under those faders, may also be unresponsive.
Identifying the Issue
First confirm that the keys are actually not responding by attempting to advance cues using the spacebar on the QWERTY keyboard. You may need to Enable Spacebar Go using Alt+G.
If the spacebar works but the [Stop|Back] and [Go] buttons do not, exit to the shell and go into the Face Panel Test utility in the Maintenance tab. Repeatedly press the [Stop|Back] and [Go] keys. If one of the keys still shows as depressed (yellow) in the test utility after being released, press one of the fader bump buttons to see if that releases the locked state.
Explanation
Prior to Eos version 3.2.8, there was an issue in the firmware for the Element 2's fader module that could occasionally cause the [Stop|Back] and/or [Go] keys to appear held down to the software even after being released.
Note that this issue is different from the [Stop|Back] and [Go] keys becoming physically stuck down. For that issue, see this article.
Resolution
This issue can be resolved by updating the firmware for the Element 2's fader module.
First, update the console's Eos software to the current version. Eos version 3.2.8 or higher is needed to fix this issue.
After updating the software, update the fader module's firmware. Fader module firmware version 2.0.2 or higher is needed to fix this issue.
