For general information about monitor compatibility, see General Monitor Information.

Overview

All Eos family consoles and devices support external touchscreens.

All Congo/Cobalt family consoles support external touchscreens, as well as Congo Light Servers running v5.0 software or later.

All consoles and devices allow any monitor to be a touchscreen; in other words, the monitors connected to a device may be all touch, all non-touch, or any combination of the two.

There are two separate categories of touchscreen that are supported, depending on what version of Windows a device is running (see What Version of Windows is my Console Running?).

  • Consoles and devices running Windows 7 or Windows 10 support touchscreens of the Windows 7 Compatible type.
  • Consoles and devices running Windows XP support touchscreens of the Legacy type.

See below for the specifications of each touchscreen category.

Windows 7 Compatible Touchscreens

Touchscreens of the Windows 7 Compatible type must meet these specifications to work with Windows 7 or Windows 10 ETC consoles.

  • Must be labeled as "Compatible with Windows 7", and include the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo in their product information.
  • Must not require the installation of any additional drivers.
  • Must have a minimum resolution of 1920x1080. Widescreen monitors are supported, but they must have a vertical resolution of at least 1080.
  • Must not exceed the maximum resolution supported by the device (see General Monitor Information).
  • Should have a VGA, DVI, or DisplayPort video connection, and the touch interface should connect via USB.
  • May be single-touch or multi-touch. There is no limit to the number of touch points allowed. Eos software version 2.0 and later will recognize up to three simultaneous touches in a magic sheet.

Legacy Touchscreens

Touchscreens of the Legacy type must meet these specifications to work with Windows XP ETC consoles.

  • Must use Elo AccuTouch 5-wire resistive touch technology.
  • Must not require the installation of any additional drivers.
  • Touch interface should connect via USB.
  • Minimum resolution depends on the software running on the device:
    • For Eos family software, the minimum supported resolution is 1280x1024.
    • For Congo/Cobalt family software, the minimum supported resolution is 1024x768.
  • Must not exceed the maximum resolution supported by the device (see General Monitor Information).
  • Supported video connections depend on the device type and monitor configuration:
    • For original Congo consoles, VGA is supported.
    • For all Ion, Element, and Congo Kid consoles, and for Congo Jr consoles, Eos RPUs, and Net3 RVIs that do not have a DMS-59 video connector, the following configurations are supported:
      • One DVI touchscreen
      • Two DVI touchscreens
      • One VGA touschreen
      • One VGA touchscreen (must be monitor 1) and one DVI touchscreen (must be monitor 2)
    • For all other devices, VGA and DVI are supported.

While all Legacy touchscreens tested by ETC are manufactured by Elo, ETC does not specify a particular model, as Elo part numbers can be imprecise and subject to change. Instead, check any Elo monitor against these general specifications.

The TouchKit monitors originally supplied with early Ion and Element consoles are not compatible with Windows 7 or Windows 10 consoles.
