Minimum wireless Router or Wireless Access Point (WAP) requirements
Requirements
ETC produces several iOS/Android applications which can be used to wirelessly remote control or interact with your lighting system. ETC does not have nor maintain a list of "compatible" wireless Routers or Wireless Access Points (WAP). As long as the device meets the requirement below, regardless of brand/model it should work:
- Be configurable with a set manual IP address (recommended but not required. Many devices will work 'out of the box' without changing its IP)
- Be able to be a DHCP server for wireless devices
- For routers this means locally hosting a DHCP server, useful when the lighting network is connected to the WAN (Internet) port of the router
- For WAPs (or routers when the lighting network is connected to a LAN port) this means passing on DHCP from another device on the network, such as an ETC Conductor or a lighting console. NOTE: in this setup ETC recommends disabling the DHCP server on a router.
- Be able to change its SSID
- Be able to set some amount of password security
- The ability to hide the SSID is nice, but not mandatory and alone doesn't meeting minimum security requirements
