DMX Gateway Output Rate Options

When editing the properties of a Net3 or Response DMX gateway in Concert, the "Port Output Rate" property determines the speed at which that port outputs DMX frames.

The "Port Output Rate" property only applies to ports which are set to the Output mode. Ports set to Input or Disabled are not affected by this property.

Max

Max is the default option for all output ports. An output port set to a rate of Max will output DMX frames at a rate of 43-44 Hz. This is suitable for use with most modern DMX equipment.

Fast, Med, and Slow

These options can be used when dealing with equipment that cannot handle DMX streams with high framerates, such as some older dimmer racks.

On a Response Mk2 gateway, an output port set to one of these options will output DMX frames at the following rates:

  • Fast: 36-38 Hz
  • Med: 34-35 Hz
  • Slow: 20 Hz

These specific rates only apply to Response Mk2 gateways. Older gateway types may output at different rates when these options are used.

Synced

This option is a special case. When Synced is selected, one DMX frame will be transmitted for every sACN packet received for that universe, keeping the DMX signal in exact sync with the sACN signal.

This can be useful for specific use cases, such as when driving video wall equipment to avoid tearing.

The DMX output framerate cannot exceed 44 Hz in this mode, and some sACN packets will be dropped if they arrive faster than 44 per second.
