One Port Gateways (v4.0.0) Cannot Communicate with NCE

Some Net3 one port gateways running firmware version 4.0.0.9.0.10 shipped incorrectly configured for a default ETCNet2/3 system.  They have proper ETC firmware installed but have an IP address of 10.4.xxx.xxx.  Our normal ETCNet2/3 IP range is 10.101.xxx.xxx with a subnet of 255.255.0.0, so the improperly configured gateway will not successfully communicate with NCE - though it will likely appear in the Version Detect and Upgrade Utility.

Technicians who have encountered this issue have found a few solutions (detailed below).

Method One:

  1. Change the computer's subnet mask to 255.0.0.0.
  2. Open NCE.
  3. Choose Network → Connect.
  4. Choose Network → Get Unbound Nodes to populate the list of devices.
  5. Use View → Node Addresses to show the IP addressing of the nodes and gateways.
  6. Choose Edit → Network Addresses (case-sensitive password is net2).
  7. Manually change the IP Address and Gateway IP of the problematic one port gateway to a matching value in our 10.101.x.x (change subnet mask to 255.255.0.0) network scheme - being cautious not to duplicate an existing IP address.
  8. Choose Network → Send Config to Nodes. After this change the gateways should begin functioning properly.
  9. Continue setting up nodes and one port gateways as normal.
  10. After closing NCE, remember to reset the computer's Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0.

Method Two:

  1. Change the computer's subnet mask to 255.0.0.0.
  2. With the computer and all gateways and nodes connected to the network, open NCE. If there are other nodes or gateways in Net2 mode online that cannot be updated to the latest software for some reason, power them down or disconnect them from the network until you have completed the process.
  3. Use Network → Network Address Server to start bootp server.
  4. Use Network → Version Detect and Upgrade Utility and let this run until all of the connected nodes and gateways appear. (The one port gateway may not appear due to the incorrect configuration - this is normal.)
  5. In Version Detect, choose{Update All} and then click {Yes} to confirm.
  6. All nodes and one port gateways will update to the firmware installed on the NCE computer and request IP addresses from the bootp server. When the list repopulates, the one port gateway should appear with a valid 10.101.xxx.xxx IP address.
  7. Close Version Detect.
  8. In NCE, under Network chooseNetwork Address Server which will stop the bootp server.
  9. Continue setting up nodes and one port gateways as normal.
  10. After closing NCE, remember to reset the computer's Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0.

One port gateways shipped on or after 2/22/2010 should all ship properly configured and not require these adjustments.
