How to turn a DMX port on and off on CEM Classic

Introduction

Turning on (enabling) and turning off (disabling) a DMX port on CEM Classic varies depending on the major software version running on the controller. Each version's process is outlined below.

2.x software

Setting the port's start address to 513 turns the port off. To turn the port on set it to the desired address below 513. Instructions to change the address are below:

  1. Press [Setup] then [2] for Rack.
  2. Press [>] until you see Port Start A or B
  3. Press [Enter] to begin editing, then press the numbers directly on keypad or [^/v] to scroll to the desired start address (or 513 to disable). Lastly press [Enter] to store the value.
  4. Press [Exit] twice to return to the home menu

3.x software

In 3.x software there are two DMX modes:

  • Standard: one start address used by both ports, and an enable/disable screen to turn ports on and off.
  • Advanced: definable start and end addresses for ports A and B, and setting the start address to 513 to disable it.

Instructions for each mode are outlined separately below.

Standard mode

  1. Press [Setup] then [2] for Rack.
  2. Rack Start Address, [>] to continue.
  3. Enable port A, to change [Enter], [^/v] to enable/disable, [Enter] to store.
  4. Enable port B, to change [Enter], [^/v] to enable/disable, [Enter] to store.
  5. DMX Mode, to change [Enter], [^/v] to Standard/Advanced, [Enter] to store.
  6. Press [Exit] twice to return to home menu.

Advanced mode

  1. Press [Setup] then [2] for Rack.
  2. Port A Priority, [>] to continue. (options: Pile on, High, off, Low)
  3. Port A start address, [Enter] to change, enter number directly with keypad or [^/v] to scroll to start address or 513 to disable, [Enter] to store.
  4. Port A end address, [Enter] to change, enter number directly with keypad or [^/v] to scroll to end address, [Enter] to store.
  5. Port A First Dimmer, [Enter] to change, enter number directly with keypad or [^/v] to scroll to end address, [Enter] to store.
  6. Port B start address, [Enter] to change, enter number directly with keypad or [^/v] to scroll to start address or 513 to disable, [Enter] to store.
  7. Port B end address, [Enter] to change, enter number directly with keypad or [^/v] to scroll to end address, [Enter] to store.
  8. Port B First Dimmer, [Enter] to change, enter number directly with keypad or [^/v] to scroll to end address, [Enter] to store.
  9. Press [Exit] twice to return to home menu.
