Unison Legacy LCD Station Display Flashes Garbage Characters or Corrupted Pages

If you see garbage or corrupted characters on the LCD station of your Unison system, most likely the bitmaps that are loaded with the configuration in the Unison Processor have become corrupted. To correct this:

  • Have the user save their current configuration to disk from the processor.
  • Email them the following files:  "LCDFONTO.BMP" and "LCDGRAFX.BMP"
    • Note that the files linked are the default ULCD graphics files. If this project uses custom ULCD graphics, those files will be unique for the config and will likely need to be obtained from ETC or the original programmer.

These files can be found within the Light Manager directory on your hard drive, and are also linked above.  Check the file properties and make sure that the files are set to "Read-Only".  The user should take these files and copy them to the disk that has the configuration that they had previously saved.  Next under Arch -> Diagnostics, Initialize Flash twice then reset and then reload the configuration with this disk and the new files.  This will reload those bitmap files and correct the problem.

Step 1: Save the current config to a floppy

Step 2: load the .bmp files from the zip file to the root directory of the same floppy disk with the config

Step 3: Initialize system flash while the floppy disk is ejected from the processor

Initializing Flash on Legacy Unison Processors

Initializing flash completely wipes the unison processor and can be used as a troubleshooting step if the processor is failing to load or hold onto an architectural configuration. Only perform this process if you have a known good configuration file saved to a floppy disk onsite to load once the processor has been wiped.

Unison Processor Hidden Buttons.JPG

  1. REMOVE ANY FLOPPY DISK FROM THE PROCESSOR'S FLOPPY DRIVE
  2. Press and hold the hidden 'unison menu activate' button under the screen until it says 'menu stat'
  3. Tap the up arrow button until the screen says 'menu arch', then tap 'enter'
  4. Use the up/down arrow buttons to navigate to 'diagnostics', then tap 'enter'
  5. Navigate to 'initialize flash', then tap 'enter'
  6. Once the screen says 'internal flash formatted enter', tap the RESET button
  7. After the unison processor reboots and says 'system okay', repeat steps 2-6 to initialize flash one more time

Step 4: reload the config from the floppy disk that also contains the bitmaps. This will also initialize pushing those files to your ULCDs in the field.
