Replacing eMotion Display Driver on Eos Apex Consoles

eMotion Video Card Replacement

If instructed and given parts through Tech Services, here are the steps in replacing the eMotion Video Cards on Apex Family consoles. If the screws on the back of the display cover become stripped use ETC PN# HWM1851 for each screw. There is a video at the end of this article.

When replacing the driver cards in an Apex 10 or 20,  both cards must be replaced at the same time, even if you are only having problems with one display.

Mismatched driver card firmware versions will cause unexpected display behavior.

Fix/Solution

  • Power off the console and switch off the hard power switch

  • Remove the following screws and center plate

  • Remove yellow and black power cable
  • Remove Display Port connection
  • Remove video connection on the right by pinching the black heads
  • Remove backlight connection in the top right of the board
    • Do not pull on the wires, only on the white plastic header

  • Remove 5 screws
    • It may be easier to access the bottom screws by flipping the monitor and approaching from the other side of the console

Ensure that the new card you are installing matches the part number of the original card as shown here:

The left and right display driver cards have different part numbers, which vary by console. If you do not have a card with a matching part number for each display, contact Technical Services.

  • Replace cables in reverse order:
    • Connect backlight cable in the top right of the board
    • This header must be plugged into the top receiver
  • Connect video connection on the right
  • Connect DisplayPort cable
    • Must be plugged into the lower DisplayPort connector as shown
  • Connect Yellow and Black Power
